Shades Reviews: Final Fantasy 4

I can see why it’s considered a classic.

I have just beaten Final Fantasy 4. A year ago, in April, I started my Final Fantasy journey, and a year ago this month I took a break when FF4 got a little too challenging for me. It was a lot to take on, a big difficulty spike. But finally, I returned, hoping to finally be done with it, finally move on. And I am happy that those things are, at least, true, but I’m also happy that I got to experience the game after all.

Maybe I would have had a better time on a different version of the game. Maybe I wouldn’t have taken such a long break. But it doesn’t matter now, what’s done is done. And this game was absolutely beautiful, in the end. I truly appreciate the gift that this game is.

(It certainly helped that, when returning to FF1 to do the Hellfire Grotto which contained FF4 bosses, I got a taste of exactly how far the series has come. I mean, really, making a floor just to have an encounter every step? Being able to hold the action button down to get through every battle?)

I started up Interlude tonight, saved as soon as I could. Gonna really start on The After Years tomorrow, and I am psyched.
